One System, Many Parts

A "system" is defined as "any entity whose parts relate to one another in a pattern." As it is, the universe has one comprehensive coordinating system — the same forces that organize galaxies and atoms also define your psyche.

Like your body, your mind is a whole organism composed of many parts. This is healthy, natural, as it should be. And! as with any complex system, the turbulence of merely existing sometimes jars certain parts out of place, disrupting the smooth functioning of the whole.

The basic goal of Internal Family Solar Systems is to identify all the vital parts and help them Self-organize into harmonious, functional relationships with one another.

No Bad Planets

Every planet is a divine archetype representing a unique niche of creation. The ancient texts say that the planets exist "to bestow upon all living beings the fruits of their karma, defeat the demons and restore righteousness."

However, as you know from life experience, to experience "the fruits of your karma" is not always a pleasant experience, and can easily be confused for punishment.

Just so with your internal family. There are no bad parts! Each part intends something positive for the system. However, the strategies these parts (or planets) use enact that positive intent often has harmful impact.

The practice of IFSS is to negotiate with these parts and offer them the opportunity to perform their preferred role.

The Internal Family Solar Systems process includes:

Six 1:1 Sessions

The IFSS process includes six, 60-minute sessions. These are usually weekly, every other week or once a month, according to your preference and our agreed-upon needs.

Generally speaking, the sessions follow this progression:

Overview: In our first session together, we'll review your Vedic Astrology chart in general and as a detailed map of your internal parts. We'll also cover the basics of the IFS protocol and process.
Meet the Family: In this second session, we will begin the process of meeting your internal family of parts (planets). This includes accessing Self energy, cataloging the parts of which you are already aware and guided meditations to gain direct access to their feelings, needs and desires.
Befriend the Protectors: In this third session, we'll continue the process of getting to know your internal family, with a focus on befriending Protector parts who may be wary of letting your Exiles have their appropriate seat at the table. We will use the tools of IFS to assuage their fears and let them know your Self can handle whatever arises.
Honor the Firefighters: In this fourth session, we'll address the rescuers who so heroically come to save the system when Exiles get loose. These are powerful parts who want to serve the system, but often perform this function in dysfunctional ways, such as activating addictions or other Self-destructive patterns — whatever it takes to quell the chaos!
Unburden the Exiles: In this fifth session, we'll focus on the burdens carried by all your parts with special emphasis on Exiles. Exiles have been banished by the family system because they seem scary, problematic or unacceptable in some way. And yet, they hold the secret to unlocking your most powerful gifts.
Integration: In our sixth and final session, we'll focus on cultivating resilient Self energy, including concrete practices to return to the Self in the midst of conflict and chaos. We'll review all the parts we've met and work on harmonizing the whole system, safely re-integrating Exiles and allowing Protectors, Firefighters to perform their appropriate roles symbiotically. We'll also review progress and discuss next steps.
